In this post we present paintings by Croydon-based artist, Wendy-Jane Sheppard.

Wendy-Jane Sheppard is an award winning artist of more than 20 years and also a Fellow of the prestigious Royal South Australian Society of Arts.

Wendy-Jane Sheppard completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree with Honours at the University of South Australia in 2006 whilst maintaining a successful artistic career, as well as teaching fine art and organising special arts events.

Wendy-Jane Sheppard continues to attract acclaim and interest for her work and exhibits regularly in group and solo exhibitions in Melbourne and interstate.

The Reverend Ian Brown, a major Art Collector and Donor to the National Gallery of Victoria will also give a short presentation on art, and the art of collecting (see below).

Visitors to the Art Exhibition can purchase a ticket in our raffle to win a beautiful Gouache (framed 94 x 112cm) painting by leading Australian Artist Victor Majzner, former Head of Painting at the Victorian College of the Arts. Tickets are $10 each, and proceeds are for the benefit of Carlton Community Projects.

Ian Brown

Over the last forty years the Reverend Ian Brown has collected a fascinating range of twentieth-century art, which the NGV has either already received as gifts, or will receive through donation and bequest. In recognition of this, and to explore the development of a personal collection, the ‘Making a mark’ display (August 2008 to February 2009) surveys highlights of this gift. The exhibition comprised watercolours, drawings and prints that range from his first acquisition, a George Baldessin drawing, to European and American prints by artists including Pablo Picasso and Jasper Johns. It also included a number of works by important New Zealand artists, a highlight being the work of Colin McCahon. Collectors play a vital role in the development of galleries and museums, each collection reflecting the interests, passions, career, travel, religious or political beliefs of the individual. Ian Brown’s choices and motivations are explored, together with the benefits for individuals and institutions of collecting art.

Trivia Night

being held at the Fitzroy Town Hall on Friday 28th August 2009, in conjunction with Heritage cluster clubs Brunswick, Collingwood, Fitzroy and Richmond.

Tickets include a 3-choice, 2-course carvery with salads and desserts, plus drinks available for purchase. There’ll be prizes and giveaways, and funds raised with support local youth projects in Carlton.

The evening commences at 6:30pm and all the information is on the attached invitation and booking form.
